About

Hi, my name is David Sov. My photography journey began when my uncle gave me a Nikkormat camera that came with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. During my university years many of my university friends from overseas fell in love and got marriage while studying in Melbourne. But with no income and could not afford a professional photographer they asked me to be their photographer instead. So I became a volunteer wedding photographer.

In 2010 my lungs were collapsing and my specialist told me that I had only between two to five years left of my life. My only hope was a double-lungs transplant. I was very fortunate that two months after I was on the waiting list, I got a call from the Alfred Hospital that there is a double-lungs ready waiting for me. So I had a double-lungs transplant in March 2011. Without the organ donation I would not live today to share my travel experiences. Through this experience that I come to value my family and friends even more. And also through this experience that I realise that life is indeed very short, we should be grateful and enjoy every day that we are still breathing. I have a second chance to life so I take it and appreciate it.

One year after my transplant operation, I went on a 24 days Trafalgar European tour that covered eleven different countries. Since then I have been travelling every year. Travelling and photography are my hobbies now. Combining travel and photography enable me to see the world through not only human lenses (our eyes) but also through the camera’s lenses. They produce very different images but beautiful in their own ways.

Through the tours that I have been, I have shared my photos with my tour mates and many have requested for those photos. Some of them are language teachers and use my photos to share with their students. One Greek professor shared one of my photo in his Greek mythology class. Others are retirees who want to show their friends the places they visited. So I have created this blog, firstly, is to share my travel photos with families, friends and tour mates from around the world whom I would not have met if not for the tours that I have joined. Secondly, I would like to share my experiences with people who are interested in travelling. Hope that my experiences would help with your travelling adventures. Thirdly, I would like to share my experiences as an amateur travel photographer. My favourite travel quotes are:

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” St. Augustine of Hippo.

“Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life.” Michal Palin.
